4 March 2019

The annual March fundraising and activity challenge is back!! ‘Walk All Over Cancer’ is a fundraising challenge set up to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Participants are challenged to walk 10,000 steps every day in March. This challenge is a great way to get fit whilst making an impact by raising money for life-saving cancer research.

Whether it’s walking all or part of your daily commute, taking the stairs at work or simply a nice springtime walk with family and friends; this challenge is a superb way of getting the 10,000 daily recommended steps done by the NHS. By the end of the month walkers would have accomplished 150 miles based on the average person’s stride, which is around the distance from London to Manchester.

Walkers can take part on their own or invite family, friends or co-workers to accept the achievable challenge with them.

Meanwhile if you still need convincing to take part here are some benefits of walking:

  • Save money

By walking at least part of your journey to work you will not only cut down commute costs or avoid the crowded bus but you can get plenty of exercise in for free.

  • Be ECO friendly

You can avoid carbon emissions by choosing to walk instead of using the cars or trains.

  • Discover new places

By walking more it allows you to discover different routes and you may come across somewhere new that you did not realise was there.

  • Spend time with family and friends

Walking is a great way to catch up with your loved ones and explore new places together.

  • Improves sleep

Increased activity to your daily routine can help you sleep better, thus feeling more rested in the morning.

  • Reduces stress

Walking can be the perfect way to relieve stress and zone out from any daily stress.

  • Lowers blood pressure

Being active can prevent high blood pressure and help lower the risk of heart problems in the future.

  • Increases energy levels

Being active can boost your energy levels when feeling tired or lazy.

  • Maintains healthy weight

Walking burns calories and helps tone and strengthen your muscles, which will help maintain a healthy weight.

  • Helps find a cure sooner

All proceeds made from Walking All Over Cancer this month will go to Cancer Research UK, bringing the cure to cancer one step closer.
