Celebrities make very effective fundraisers for your charity

Celebrity Endorsements can be used by non-profit organisations by including them to promote your charity. By doing so, they can help you raise awareness, attract people’s attention and reach a wider audience. You will find this method of advertising to give you fast and promising results along with lots of press coverage and a large amount of fundraising money for your charity because of their vast connections around the world.

Unfortunately, there is one issue for following this way of marketing and that is COST. It will cost you a great deal (possibly more than the benefits) to have a well-known person in your charity marketing. Majority of celebrities will expect to be paid for their time even if it is to just turn up to an event. Also it costs time and money to find just one to get involved and unfortunately all this adds up! If you’re lucky maybe you will find a celebrity that cares a great deal for your cause that they are willing to volunteer out of the goodness of their hearts and all you will have to do is make sure they are well looked after by organizing their travel, food, accommodation etc.

When choosing a celebrity, make sure you choose one that is suitable for your charity cause, meaning someone who relates to it, experienced similar or is a known for donating a lot to charity. Here are some examples;

  • A young pop-star supporting a charity for youngsters
  • Small, local charities should choose a local celebrity
  • Cancer charities should avoid celebrities that smoke
  • Charity supporting women’s causes should have a iconic celebrity woman
  • A celebrity that has experienced the same issues as your charity causes

I’ve also included below some handy tips and advice to get you started;

  • Start planning as early as you can
  • Be patient, it can take a long time till you hear back from someone
  • Contact their agents by phone and email
  • Follow up emails by giving more information of your charity and event, include any materials relevant
  • If the celebrity declines then ask if you could have some autographed products to put on auction
